College’s Nursing Department to Receive New Home

Nursing degree students who are enrolled at Wesley College will soon benefit from the acquisition of a new headquarters, reports the Dover Post.

The Delaware-based college is scheduled to take possession of the J. Allen Frear Federal Building, which is located in Dover, in July. Renovations to the 36,000-square-foot space will begin shortly after.
Wesley College’s Department of Nursing’s offices, classrooms and labs are spread out across a few campus buildings. Due to limited space for training simulations, scheduling classes has become a challenge.
School officials say that the new building will house faculty offices, an auditorium, additional classrooms and labs. In addition, the Frear building’s close proximity to Bayhealth Medical Center’s Kent General Hospital and other facilities will allow for an increase in opportunities for degree seekers.
“It has wonderful access for us to the hospital, that opens up other partnership opportunities,” says Dr. Lucille Gambardella, Wesley Nursing Department chair. “We could offer a lot to the hospital for those who are already nurses who want continuing education.”
Gambardella adds that the only thing holding the institution’s nursing program back is its small,10-person full-time faculty.
According to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, a faculty shortage across the country may limit student capacity. This comes as the need for healthcare professionals continues to grow nationwide.
