Xavier University's College of Social Sciences, Health, & Education (CSSHE) consists of a variety of disciplines that focus on community service and social responsibility. Some of the departments and schools represented within CSSHE are nursing, education, criminal justice, social work and health services administration. Undergraduate and graduate level degree programs are offered within CSSHE's divisions and schools. Master of Health Services Administration

An undergraduate degree in healthcare administration gives graduates the foundational skills to gain entry level employment as policy analysts, patient care coordinators and medical staff administration managers. However, healthcare professionals who want to move into senior management and executive healthcare administration roles require more advanced instruction and experience. The CSSHE's Master of Health Services Administration (MHSA) degree program can be taken either full or part time by students who already have an undergraduate degree. The full time MHSA schedule includes two years of rigorous coursework and a year of supervised residence at the local university hospital. In addition to successful completion of coursework and the residency requirement, students must also complete a graduate level project on topics like policy development, applied management or any faculty approved research topic. The professional health care news publication Modern Healthcare also ranked the MHSA at Xavier University number one in the nation twice during 2008-2010. Some of the criteria used to rank the graduate level health care administration programs were program length, tuition cost and number of yearly graduates.
