Master’s Degree Programs in Missouri
Missouri is one state that hasn’t let the economic downturn affect their health care community. While other state’s hospitals are experiencing layoffs, Missouri has increased their hospitals’ employment rate, adding 300 new health care jobs in January 2009, according to the Missouri Hospital Association. According to the 2008 Bureau of Labor Statistics, 168,690 Missourians worked in health practitioner and technical occupations, and had an annual mean wage of $58,650. Knowing the impact of hospitals in Missouri, health care workers can find their place in one of the many renowned hospitals and medical centers throughout the state. For example, the University of Missouri has a comprehensive health care system, with five hospitals and several clinics, all of which provide different levels of medical care and provide thousands of jobs to health care professionals. In addition, Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics, CoxHealth and St. John’s Health System rank as some of the biggest employers for health care jobs in Missouri. The medical fields with the most representation in Missouri are dieticians and nutritionists, respiratory therapists and emergency medical technicians and paramedics. In addition, the metropolitan city of Columbia, MO, is a top-paying area for medical and clinical laboratory technicians.
