The health care industry is growing in Michigan, with hospitals being some of the largest and most reliable employers in a state that has been hit the hardest by jobless rates during the nation’s economic slump. In fact, health care is the single biggest employment category in many Michigan cities where a community hospital is located, according to Michigan’s state website. In 2006, a key study even showed health care was Michigan’s largest private sector employer. Health care professionals will continue to be needed to serve the state’s estimated population of 10 million people.
