Master’s Degree Programs in Kansas

The Midwestern state of Kansas is home to about 2.8 million people, and the health care industry in the state will need to ensure that qualified individuals are available to provide health care leadership, administration and health care services to this population. The most job opportunities will be centered on Kansas’ larger urban areas, such as Wichita, Overland Park, Kansas City and Topeka, and you can expect good overall job security. Kansas has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation (about 6.6 percent in December 2009, compared to 10 percent for the rest of the nation). Some of Kansas’ largest health care employers include: the St. Luke’s Health System, which includes 11 hospitals, and the KU Medical Center based out of the Kansas City area; and the Via Christi Health System, which employs more than 9,000 people, out of the Wichita area. About 70,590 people were employed in careers as health care practitioners and technicians in Kansas as of May 2008. The average yearly salary of those in these professions was $60,740.
